Housekeeping rules

There can be no eating, drinking or chewing (including pens!) while you're in the lab.

Exceptions to this include if you are undertaking a specific sensory class (which may include tasting) or taking cheek swabs etc, in which case appropriate safety control measures will be undertaken.

Long hair must be tied back and head scarves tucked down inside your lab coat. When you're in the lab you must always conduct yourself in an appropriate manner in line with basic laboratory safety, ie no running, throwing objects or displaying other forms of behaviour that could be considered ‘horse play’.

You have a responsibility for your own health and safety – but also that of other staff, students or visitors to the lab. Any conduct that could be considered a risk to yourself and/or others will result in immediate exclusion from the class, and could affect your grade.

Personal belongings

You must keep the use of all personal items to a minimum in the laboratory in line with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). This includes mobile phones and other electronic devices.

If you need to use a digital device then a student iPad will be provided to you. These are completely disinfected between classes and don't get used outside the lab, minimising the risk of contamination to other users.
